If someone thinks the "community" did not like the Jennings appointment, watch what happens if Lucy Gerold is appointed over actual qualified candidates. It would be a very bad joke. And that screaming and yelling will not be applause that the Mayor and Council will hear. I can not imagine voting for someone who cared so little about public safety in Minneapolis.
Lucy Gerold makes the Jennings appointment look like a stroke of masterful personnel genius. Even the consideration of such an appointment makes a complete mockery of our Police Department and public safety in Minneapolis. Lucy Gerold also made a mockery of CCP Safe. It was a political organizing tool for the Mayor's office and City Council until control was taken from Gerold and put in the Precincts (where it now does an acceptable job). Lucy Gerold's appointment as Deputy Chief over qualified police officers is already a political joke. Let's not compound it further. A more qualified person as Police Chief would probably be that duffus who ran the Academy in the Police Academy movies. At least that joke usually turned out alright with Bubba Smith and Company. Personally, I would rather have Jennings running the police department. At least he has some "proven" administrative acumen. Appointing a woman just to appoint a woman does not do Minneapolis or women a favor. Why not do women and Minneapolis a favor and appoint a qualified woman as Police Chief. And there is a "REAL" woman cop on the force. Sharon Lubinski IS an actual cop with years of experience. Sharon Lubinski, who did more for "Community Policing" than Gerold ever dreamed of doing. So let's get a "real" and qualified local police officer for Chief or let's go out nationally and find a gifted person. With all the problems of police protection in Minneapolis we need a "REAL" cop not another political hack joke. It also does NOT do Lucy Gerold any favor to be throwing her name out as a possible candidate. Perhaps she is trying to be a good police officer and as such does not need the public derision and laughter that such consideration would surely bring. Let her have time to actually gain some experience before subjecting her to such speculation. Now, it is similar to appointing a private just out of boot camp as commanding general of an army. It is time for Minneapolis politicians to look at public safety as a serious concern and stop with the bad political humor. Jim Graham, Ventura Village REMINDERS: 1.
