Stinky Scandal
Yeh, imagine all those Yankees, in the dugout, in the field, totally
distracted from the game, thinking "Yum, what was that jello that tasted
like fish? When can I get some more? I know, if I just swing at the first
three pitches, we can get this game OVER and then I can HAVE SOME MORE!"
Sadly, these brilliant ideas always come too late!

Redistricting
I'm trying to sort out what people are saying here. If somehow the official
map were a DFL power booster, why would any Republican support it?
Shouldn't every COMPETING party be against it? Not that the Republicans
have snowball's chance in hell now that they've deliberately molested the
city budget, but they still wouldnt have any rational motive to want the
DFL STRONGER. Or would they. Maybe the people with the conspiracy theories
can show that logic doesnt apply.

Racism
The community school plan was not an attempt to separate the races. It was
an attempt to recover money for education that had futilely been spent on
transportation. The notion back when the courts imposed busing was that by
balancing populations in schools, the learning gap between races would
gradually disappear. That gap hasnt improved at all. So, why not try
something else after decades of trying out what was, at best, a THEORY.
After all, what was busing REALLY about? It was about segregation in
housing. If we could learn, as races, to get along as neighbors, you would
never need busing. But block-busting, a real estate scam that started at
least as far back as the 60s, caused neighborhoods to change from all-white
to majority-black, while enriching real estate brokers and further
impoverishing black homebuyers. The term may be unfamiliar to Generation X
people, but it was the subject of endless coverage in the media at the time.
So, anyway, Sayles Belton came out in favor of community schools with
CHOICE in hopes that by taking bus money and applying it to teaching in
black-majority schools, something could be accomplished. Just another
theory, but worth trying. She did give an issue to a sector of the Left,
but theres no way to avoid that.
