If support of or opposition to a candidate for superintendent on the basis of race is racism, then it seems to me that whites will have to be VERY careful to make sure they LOOK at all the nonwhite candidates to be sure they AREN�T filtering input on the basis of race. Tell me, Doug Mann, who ARE the candidates you looked at? What are their names? What are their qualifications? Because it is ALL TOO EASY for one to say they are making a color-blind choice when all the candidates are one color. I�m not picking on Doug particularly because I feel, in my gut, that he�s the LEAST likely to make a racist choice, but he�s the one who is trying to refute Ron Edwards. Actually, isn�t it a fact that Ron is merely stating what a lot of white people have always felt? Maybe that�s his intention, to get the white subconscious agenda out on the surface where it can be looked at. A lot of rabbis used that technique. Actually, I think Socrates might have, too. It only works on those who are morally conscious agents, but that�s a start.
City Pages on Police Violence
Just speaking for me, reading that absurd dichotomy taken from their pages convinces ME never to take CITY PAGES seriously again. The idea that an editor let that DRIVEL out for public consumption suggests to me that he or she might want to find what clinic Rush is checking into (for future reference)
Lobbyist
Wouldnt David Jennings be the PERFECT choice to lobby for Minneapolis? Uh, I don't know. Is Jennings a resident of Minneapolis? Does Minneapolis NEED to hire nonresidents to represent its interests? Yeh, yeh, yeh, don't remind me how EVERYONE has the "right" to live anywhere they want. But they don't have a "right" to any patronage job that happens to fall open. I guess it really depends on who is available. Let the people who WANT the job explain their qualifications. If Jennings is the best suited to fight for MINNEAPOLIS' interests, I guess that makes him Da Man. But I don't think Minneapolis government needs to play placement office for David Jennings. He has the kind of kiss that will guarantee him one sinecure after another. He's the one guy, in this economy, whose future I will never worry about!
