Greetings.

Litter and debris is an issue that periodically recurs in the Issues Forum discussion.
Many of the Issues Folks gave City Staff valued input back in 2000 when the City
Council convened the Clean Minneapolis Task Force. The Task Force examined the topic
of Minneapolis Cleanliness...litter, garbage, graffiti and such...and developed
recommendations for a Cleaner Minneapolis. Perhaps not as a direct result of that
work, but certainly in reflection of Minneapolis resident and employee efforts, the
Mercer Group recognized Minneapolis as the 5th Cleanest City in the World in 2002.

Litter, however, does not recognize laurels, and certainly does not allow even as
great a City as Minneapolis to rest upon those laurels. Klara A. Fabry, P.E. the City
Engineer, Director of Public Works, has asked me to again convene a group of
individuals to evaluate the City's Anti- Litter efforts, and to find ways to enhance
our City's Cleanliness.

Therein lies my request. What are the perceptions of List Members of our City's
Cleanliness? What efforts do you recognize, and approve of? What areas (both
geographic and topical) would you like to see addressed more vigorously? What are
your suggestions for making positive improvements? If your suggestions involve
expenditures of Public Dollars, how should those dollars be generated, or, what
services would you suggest be re-prioritized to free up needed dollars?

If anyone would like a copy of the Final Clean Minneapolis Task Force Report (April
2000), please e-mail me off line and I'll e-mail the report back to you. If anyone
would like to attend meetings that we set up on Clean Minneapolis Topics, again,
please e-mail me off list and I'll let you know as meetings are scheduled.

I'm looking forward to the Collective Wisdom!!!
