Just me chiming in again. I was under the impression that there were jobs that homeowners could not do, even in their own homes, in Minneapolis. Am I mistaken? Can I really tackle any job as long as I pull a permit?
Last year, when I put a new roof on my house, I wanted my son to do it as he is actually a roofer. As I understood the Minneapolis ordinance, I could pull the permit as a homeowner, but only my son and myself could actually do the work (has to be immediate family). His friends (who are roofers) could not help. Since I wasn't going up there and my son couldn't do it alone, I ended up having it done by a licensed contractor. For some reason, roofers don't need a city license in addition to their state one (even notice how many different roofing companies there are around--maybe there is a connection).
