Police officers are considered "always on duty" and may be asked/needed

people have a problem with a licensed police officer carrying a weapon

WM: Mpls. police officers are required by either law or police department policy to carry their weapon when inside the city limits for any reason under the sun--say a ball game or concert. However, I doubt they want to create problems they will have to report on when they're just in for lunch or coffee. I'd be willing to bet they pray to whatever gods they choose that nothing will happen so they can have their breather in peace.

This "conceal carry" legislation that was passed in this session removed
the ability of local police/sheriffs to do determine who may have a
permit to carry a weapon.

WM: I'd have to contest that. The conceal carry law was pushed by gun manufacturers, NRA, and people frightened enough of public violence to think that carrying a concealed weapon is their most effective deterent. I contest that notion, but that doesn't change their separate reality. Police
departments contested the law as a nightmare they'll have to deal with. To whatever extent that actually happens, it's their reality that they'll have to clean up the mess, as will the courts, the social service system, and four zillion other pidgeon holes. There is the shared reality we have to work with.

The trouble with humans is, as a species, is that we're always stuck with other people's failings as well as all of our own dysfunctions. Is that tiresome, of what?
