Thanks to Eva Young for reminding us again that every day thousands of tax dollars are poured into the coffers of Smith Parker, that they might cater to the interests of their large corporate clients, including Wells Fargo and Allina Health Care.
The consequences of this corporate malfeasance plague neighborhoods every day. Local groups struggle to create democratic structures, only to have Smith Parker monopolize agendas in virtually every nook and cranny of the south side. Public money is being used to pay Tom Johnson so that he can be on agendas in Whittier, Powderhorn, the Midtown Greenway Coalition, Mercado Central, and every other conceivable grass-roots committee on the south side, cajoling, arm-twisting, and cornering people into supporting such boondoggles as the Excess Project.
The Excess Project started at Allina and Honeywell. Like a virus it has spread through out our neighorhoods, fat on ill-spent tax dollars channeled through Smith Parker.
Time to trim the belt, ax the Excess Project, and let Smith Parker profit from the private sector - not our tax dollars.
