WM: And what fat are you aware of in this budget? There is none. Before RT and Pawlenty made any decisions to cut, this library system was running on bare bones, having cut out fat in a series of internal cuts over three or four years--maybe longer. (Tempis always seems to be fugiting.) The demand on this library system by politicians and die hard Republicans like Ms. Hatchet is to cut into the muscle and sinew. How very nice of all of them to decimate the infrastructure of Minneapolis.........Until you can EXPLAIN and JUSTIFY the following Minneapolis expenditures:
24,400,000 Library Board
Ms. Hatchet says: Trim the fat before you pry more money from your neighbors!
This library system has been functioning well at it's present configuration for some fifty years or better (central, 14 branches, bookmobile). We have been able to afford it during all that time and suddenly were being told we cannot afford it.
We most certainly can afford it, because it is integral to a reasonable quality of life--not fat, not luxurious, just reasonable. Further, it is essential for the recovery and continuing health of our democracy. To pretend otherwise is, at best, disingenuous.
