Shawn Lewis asked: Does anyone know which Mpls Catholic Churches have a history of providing leadership on issues like racism?
St. Stephen's Church currently has a Dismantling Racism committee which meets twice a month, and many of the parishioners and staff are involved. The members of the committee are expected to more than just attend Dismantling Racism classes, direct action is also a part of what they do--including advocating locally/statewide for people of color. Even the parishioners not directly involved in the DR committee are expected to work to make the world a more fair and just place to be. I have worked for St. Stephen's Human Services for eight years and have felt a strong commitment on the part of our executive director Dianne Haulcy (who is African American) as well as our Pastor, Fr. Pat Griffin, (and the pastors before him) to work on issues of social justice as well as eliminating the structural causes of homelessness and poverty (racism being one of them.) Allysen Hoberg Audobon Park St. Stephen's Shelter, Whittier PS I may be a little biased, since I work here. I'll be interested to learn more about other places in the city as well. -----Original Message----- From: Shawn Lewis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2003 5:51 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Mpls] Archbishop Flynn: 'racism in Catholic Church'/Mpls Churches http://www.archspm.org/In%20Gods%20Image.html http://www.archspm.org/racism/Racism%20Eng.pdf Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Search Smarter - get the new eXact Search Bar for free! http://www.exactsearchbar.com/ REMINDERS: 1.
