The average hood store is in violation of probably a dozen city ordainences, not to mention heaven knows how many state and federal laws. An interagency enforcement team could shut down practically every Hood Store in the city in a day and keep them closed for good. Consider the violations- rotten foods, improper storage of foods, fire code violations, etc.... It ain't gonna happen though, because citizens who happen to live in the 'hoods don't get equal protection under the law in this city.

Meanwhile the big money interests downtown are complaining loudly about rising crime in their high class 'hood. Here in the Northside so many folks have left that there isn't much of value left to steal, so the gangbangers are having to commute downtown where the money is. Today our Police Department announced that they will allow Downtown business' security forces to use MPD's radio channels.

I am told that MPD switched to their flawed new digital radio system largely to avoid eavesdropping by citizens who happened to be paying for said MPD's operations. They certainly didn't switch because the system worked better- in fact it works so badly that Fire is still using the old system for dispatching. MPD's new digital system has already been hacked, and scanners that can hear MPD should be available for christmas. This assumes that MPD doesn't raid the local Radio Shacks and seize them off the shelves.

But the downtown businesses apparently have a cozier relationship with MPD than mere citizens, with MPD allowing them free access to at least one of their new digital channels. One would think MPD would make similar offers to neighborhood watch groups and such, but none has been forthcoming. Again, MPD and the city of Minneapolis send a message: Corporations, which aren't even "natural" persons, come first. Citizens, now matter how honorable, come in second at best.
