David Piehl writes: The Smith Parker-led PAC process is anything but respectful. There is a lot of pandering, dealmaking, and "Stockholm Syndrome" involved, but very little respect. On the other hand, Project for Public Spaces is a very respected organization; they organized a Lake Street meeting that felt a lot more genuine than the current process; this was just before the current process got underway. Unfortunately for residents, Smith Parker "respectfully" chased them off of "their" turf. What is Smith Parker afraid of? Scott Persons writes: My fear is that we will have things foisted upon us from the outside by those who have the power to pull the plug on current processes underway that do a better job of balancing input from residents, businesses and institutions than a MNDOT led process. Given half a loaf or none at all I'm taking half a loaf. I think ignoring the threat of MNDoT led redesign is naieve and dangerous so I'm taking the current process. David Piehl writes: That certainly helps explain your position. However, negotiating from a position of fear rarely brings all that a negotiation could.
