House Passes FY04 Energy & Water Development Appropriations Conference
Agreement
Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Martin Sabo announced $750,000 he set aside
for restoration of the Lower St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River in
downtown
Minneapolis. In addition to new trails and parks, the project is designed
to recreate the
natural whitewater rapids that existed long ago.
"The Mississippi River is a tremendous asset. Not only has it contributed
greatly
throughout our state's history, but we continue to benefit from its
environmental and
economic values," said Sabo, who has previously earmarked $2.6 million for
this project.
"Like the Stone Arch Bridge and the Mill City Museum, I continue working
hard to
provide the federal government's share of this important project."
Sabo has successfully increased the authorization level for this natural
treasure
from $10 million to $25 million. The increased authorization was included
in the House-
passed Water Resources Development Act, which is now under consideration by
the
Senate.
Sabo is the sole member of Minnesota's Congressional delegation to serve on
either the House or Senate Appropriations Committees.
