[David Shove] This is the standard line used by the ruling class to
destroy small business and co-ops and unions; to send our jobs
overseas; etc.

[Vicky Heller] I beg your pardon, but the ruling class in Minneapolis
is the DFL -- and your handpicked rulers chose to subsidize Saks 5th
Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Can you explain that?

Does anyone know what the wages are at the heavily subsidized Target
stores? Just looking for logic here - no offense.

I wonder which small stores you are trying to protect: It can't be
the neighborhood stores that list members are trying to put out of
business. Which small businesses (without government subsidies) are
paying the good wages and benefits? It would be interesting to find a
few examples.

Long term List members know that I actually ran a small software
business for thirty years; I wonder if any other comment contributors
have actually been in the trenches. It would be nice to hear from a
few people who have owned and operated a small business in
Minneapolis. Anyone out there? I'd love to hear how easy it is to
make money, because that certainly was not my experience.

[Jeanne Massey] ........I don't know how real the fear of a
Minneapolis Wal-Mart should be.

[Vicky Heller] I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Target bailed out,
despite having received a boatload of your cash. Wal-Mart uses its
own money, so management exercises more caution.

It doesn't really matter anyway -- I see lots of Wal-Mart bags being
carried around Cedar-Riverside -- so the residents have figured out a
way to shop where they want to. .....Or maybe they're just avoiding
that extra .5% Minneapolis sales tax.

Every Saturday, my Minneapolis buddies and I go to Sam's Club and/or
Wal-Mart. We have a blast! Try it, you might just have FUN.
