Well, I just read the article and am struck by two things. Bouza critizied
Moose for writing a book. This from a man who has written how many books?
One of which was mandatory reading for the sgt's promotional exam. No
conflict of interest there, folks.

Secondly, Bouza summed up his feelings in the last line of the story:
"you'll never changed the culture in the MPD. It's hopeless." Okay, ,now we
know, heard it from the self-proclaimed expert himself. If he feels it's
hopeless, then why is everyone always running to him for advice? Why is he
the only former chief who is ever quoted? Could it be that since he wasn't
a glowing success at the job, nobody else can be? Since he couldn't gain
the respect of the officers, they must all be a bunch of bubbas who will not
respect anybody?

As far as hiring Mr Moose, I have no knowledge of his background other than
what I've seen in the media. My question is the same question we, the
officers, asked when the city hired Bouza and Olson. Why are these guys
coming here? Why would someone relocate their family to a totally different
section of the country to work at a police department in an area they know
little or nothing about?

Bouza going from NYPD to the NY Transit Police made sense. We see that
happen here all the time. Many former MPD officers are now chiefs in other
area departments or are in other aspects of law enforcement. This makes
sense because most law enforcment jobs demand contact with the public. It
is much harder to judge a person's past performance in this area from a
distance than it is if they have worked right next door, so to speak. But to
jump to a new area to take a less prestigious job at such a 'diffcult and
troubled', even "hopeless" department? These guys must be either gluttons
for punishment or losers? Mpls was Olson's last stop in a string of jobs.
Seems Mr Moose has been from coast to coast as well. I'm not accusing anyone
of anything, but I think these questions need to be seriously considered.
Just food for thought, guys and gals.
