A while back a listmember put pins on an electronic map for every member of this list's domicile. As expected, the pins representing listmembers were pretty sparse in the impacted communities like the Northside and Phillips crime containment zones. But the pins and list membership were thick in the affluent and largely white enclaves along the lakes, river gorge, etc.. Now look at the neighborhoods where the recent exile's from this list hail- Hawthorne, Near North, Ventura Village. These exiles all live in the criminal containment zones, and in the cities poorest neighborhoods. It is sad enough that this list has so little participation from the 'hood without the few we have getting thrown off.
The exiling of Jim Graham from this list has been a real wakeup call for me and it should be for all citizens of this list and city. Computers operate at 5 volts or less, doubtful if that'd even give the target of a hostile e-mail even a tingle. Despite the accusations there is nothing Jim Graham or anyone could do over this e-mail list that would merit a charge of even the most petty assault, never mind battery.
I suspect the real reason Jim Graham was booted from this list was because he spoke the truth. In a disfunctional family the brave folks who won't hide their wounds or tell the truth or call the authorities are exiled. And so it appears to be on this list.
I'm sorry that we voices from the 'hood are upsetting anyone in their fortress neighborhood's carefully constructed fantasy of what Minneapolis is. Enjoy that fantasy Minneapolis while you can, because reality is coming. I can confirm Vicky's comments that there was no rush of shoppers downtown yesterday. As for the gangbangers moving to the warmer environment of city center, I have noted that they are rather scarce on the streets of my hood lately. They're not dumb- why freeze on a streetcorner in abandoned Hawthorne when you can deal and wild in the warmth of increasingly abandoned City Center and adjoining buildings?
an exile in Hawthorne,
