Black church leaders praise Flynn for speaking out Tony Kennedy, Star Tribune Published December 3, 2003 Black church leaders praised Catholic Archbishop Harry Flynn Tuesday for illuminating the problem of racism in Minnesota, saying organized religion has too often fostered attitudes of racial superiority.
Prof. Mahmoud El-Kati, likened Flynn's pastoral letter on racism to a speech John F. Kennedy gave on the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The president's speech and the archbishop's letter both confronted Americans about the sin of racism, El-Kati said...... The professor, who taught history at Macalester College, suggested Kennedy's stance against racial bigotry may have led to his assassination. And he said the archbishop is similarly wading into "dangerous" waters. "You'll get hate mail," El-Kati said. "I want to salute you as a human being." ************************************************************ Question--Is it dangerous to speakout against racism in Minneapolis?
