I agree with Bob on this point. Most of the people who attend Ventura
Village meetings have done pretty good work along Franklin Ave.

As a marginal member I think the main issue that I've observed is that even
if we don't like each other and certainly don't agree with one another, we
don't want somebody from outside the neighborhood ( especially City Hall)
telling us what is good for our neighborhood. In Ventura Village all
residents are allowed to vote which is pretty amazing seeing as in most
neighborhoods, only the board can vote.

Whatever happens on the other side of the annual meeting, the new board
members will have a very high standard to uphold. This should be very very
very interesting. Will there be any elected officials in the house to help
mediate this gathering? I can't wait to see what happens; and who can
energize their base the most.

On a lighter note. I am only in my 30's but remember what was on Franklin
Ave (80's and 90's) from 35 to Hiawatha, then as opposed to now. Red Robin
Liquor Store, Bill Blass, Red Owl Grocery Store, the Porno theater, Red &
White Taxi Native American Center, Models Cities Clinic, Franklin
Library..etc. What have I missed?

As a resident of Ventura Village, I wonder why Mr. Peaches from Powderhorn
Park neighborhood is so interested in my neighborhood and thinks he knows
what's good for us. I used to live in Powerhorn Park in the 1970's and now
that I'm here, I certainly wouldn't be putting my voice out regarding Mr.
Peaches' neighborhood. When he says it's time to "step aside and let new
blood see what they can do," he loses sight of the fact that somebody may
be more interested in the $$$ than in the hearts and minds of the
residents. Last time I checked, we've done pretty well without paid
neighborhood staff and still have attracted about $130 million in
development along East Franklin Avenue. Now we residents should step aside
for organizers who don't live in our neighborhood who think they can bring
better things to our neighborhood? Then why must it be a hostile takeover?
Actually, we will be documenting this "takeover" effort so that when the
postwar pundits get together to pick through the debris with their forceps
of discovery, they will at least have a clear record of what happened that
evening. Got your popcorn ready Mr. Peaches???
