Thank you, David Brauer, for a fresh perspective on the homeless issue.
Of course, you and Mark Snyder are right, we must hold to the fire the
feet our County Board members. There's a chance I may be moving to NE
Minneapolis in 2005. If I do, I''ll really start putting the pressure on
Mark Stenglein. Though he's a decent chap, especially when it comes to
issues regarding race, his fiscal policies are a disaster.

Thank you, David, for forwarding Gail Dorfman's email, by the way.

I'm also intensely curious now, never having given the issue much
thought, if we wouldn't be serving homeless people better by getting them
into current apartment buildings where there are high vacancie rates,
rather than paying developers to build more complexes. Thanks,
listmembers, for bringing this up.

Mark Synder: If Mayor Rybak should buck the sentiments of Police
Federation President John Delmonico (as well as many of our current city
council representatives) and succeeds in getting one of the top two
external candidates hired for Police Chief, then some of my respect for
him will be restored (mind you, I'm only saying "some"), despite his
current campaign fund raiser fiasco.

Speaking of the Mayor's current fundraising fiasco, since Christmas is a
time for miracles let me say kudos to Rochelle Olson and the Minneapolis
Star Tribune for an excellent article regarding R.T. Rybak's upcoming
fund raiser. If, in the future, should Ms. Olson put the heat on more
politicians across the ideological spectrum, like she puts the heat on
R.T. in her most recent article, then I'll forgive that silly piece she
wrote about Natalie Johnson Lee's traffic citation and personally lobby
the Pulitzer Prize committee on her behalf. Thanks for the link,
David!!!!

Finally, thank you David Shove, for another enlightening historical
perspective in regard to the history of cities and how it relates to our
latest Park Board blunder. Your reminder that governments have always
done a poor job of serving citizens, makes me feel a lot better,
strangely enough.

Wish I could say more and respond point by point to Mark Snyder's
thoughtful post from yesterday, but the responsibilities of my day job
and other creative endeavors beckon me. ------Peter Schmitz CARAG
