Ok David, please wrap me on the knuckles for this if you think it's not Minneapolis enough...
Article in today's Star trombone: http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4274798.html Issue: City Education Reform One of my many challenges to the public school system is providing for the needs of immigrants (ie Language and culture integration based services) in a timely manner. One of the things I found in my six plus years working in/with the system is that the decision makers from the federal level down to the local level don't make plans based on this type of information. In my questioning of the school system representatives at the highest of levels (locally) is that they aren't aware when to expect an inflow of one group of immigrants or another into a particular area. Well, heads up folks are you paying attention? The federal, state, and local school systems need to be looking right now at how this impacts the school system and what they need to do in order to provide for these kids they are about to receive. Realizing that we/they don't know right where people are going to land, but it is something to be thinking about how to handle. Steve Sumner Waite Park REMINDERS: 1.
