Whatever the shortcomings of the Pulse may be, I find that Mark Wilde's diatribe is rather insensitive to Jane Franklin, in her current predicament as the writer of the article in question.

Jane had already stated that the factual errors that were included in the published article were not in her submitted final draft. Yes, they were included in an earlier draft of the article, but she says that she corrected them in the version intended for publication. If journalists--indeed posters on e-mail lists--were always held accountable of drafts that did not intend to see the light of day, no one would have much creditability left I suspect.

So, to Jane, don't throw in the journalistic towel because of this one bad experience with a publication of extremely variable quality.

I hope that folks don't lose sight of the valid points that Jane made in her article--even in the mistakenly published version--about the preformed "public" process around the 35W Access Project and Lake Street that is intended to reshape our city in ways that will benefit a few players at the expense of many.

Yeah, I cringed at the few inaccuracies, having followed the these issues rather closely. But I found some nice writing and solid analysis in there too.

May I suggest to publisher of the Pulse that he post Jane Franklin's finished article on the the Pulse website? I would like to read it.

Finally, again to Jane, if someone is willing to pay you to write, don't stop doing it. . . . You could have written a letter to the editor to the STRIB, have your meaning butchered in the name of brevity, and not made a cent. There will be many editorial "sins" in your future that will put this unfortunate event in context.
