Unalienable Rights...Except if You’re a Felon

"Giving due deference to the power of both the religious right and the racist goon mentality in prisons, it’s safe to say that among the votes lost by the disenfranchisement of ex-felons, a solid majority percent would go against Republicans. Uggen, based on his studies, estimates it would be 7 out of 10."

I really enjoyed how Mr. Rubenstein let loose with "religious right" and "racist goon" in the same breath. Obviously he doesn't get out much, or goes to the same boring parties with the same boring people he agrees with. The DFL will also be overjoyed to learn that 70% of felony offenders will vote Democratic. Mr. Rubenstein, I will guess, doesn't like the DFL. Then again, he also wrote for The Nation.

Aside from this column being the Pulse's latest Oppressed Black Man of the Week(tm) story, what was the point of running it, and linking it on the Minneapolis Issues list?
