EDITORIAL We must monitor City projects By: Pauline Thomas Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder Originally posted 12/17/2003
As we approach some potentially large commercial development projects in the next few years Lake Street Center, the Guthrie, the Downtown Library, Nicollet Hotel Block, and many housing developments it is time to look at whether the City of Minneapolis has the right mechanisms in place to ensure substantial involvement of persons of color in these developments. Some people in our community say that we should not have to monitor a developer or business to make sure they are hiring and promoting employees or businesses of color. They feel it should be up to the minority contractor to develop a personal relationship with the majority contractor, and then all the opportunities flow to the communities of color from that relationship. http://www.spokesman-recorder.com/News/Article/Article.asp?NewsID=36377&sID=16 Posted by Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm REMINDERS: 1.
