DS: . . . thanks to our Republican Governor's and State House's tax
cuts for the wealthy our police force is still over 100 officers short.

PS: If the gunshots had been fired in Linden Hills, Kenwood, East
Harriet, or Sam and Sylvia Kaplan's condo complex, instead of Ventura
Village, I wonder if the response time would had been thirty minutes.

Once when I made a 9-1-1 call, early in the afternoon, regarding a
loiterer (who appeared inebriated) making threats at my workplace in the
Seward neighborhood that serves vulnerable adults, the dispatcher told me
that the police were too busy to come out.

Several years ago, in the same part of town, I called the police to
discuss an incident where children in the neighborhood had assaulted one
of our clients the previous day. Two police officers came. They were
extremely rude, despite the fact that the client and I were able to
provide all the important details of the incident, including exact
address and description of the kids. Both cops were extremely rude and
refused to do anything about the incident. When I asked for their names
only one showed his badge number---for all of two seconds.

BTW, both incidents, occurred before the Pawlenty's budget cuts. So we
can't blame the republicans on this one (as much as I love to blame them
myself).

Those concerned about how their area is served by the police and
appropriate response time should check out the recent mediation agreement
with the Minneapolis Police Department, perhaps the problem of crime
containment and underserving certain communities was addressed.

Contacting Council member Dan Nizoliek, chair of the Public Safety
committee, might also help.
