A correction to the 12/24/03 edition of MPLS Observer

On December 15, the City Council did
unanimously approve a nuisance fire ordinance, creating a new fine system to
reduce the number of garbage fires. Times for recreational backyard fires did
not change under the new ordinance; they remain from 9am to 10pm.
”Sporadic complaints of nuisance fires, including fires that produce
heavy smoke and fires containing household garbage, prompted the creation of
a fine structure,” said the author, Gary Schiff, 9th Ward. Violators,
if caught, face fines ranging from $80 to $200.
