The transportation planners and paid lobbyists who are
plowing the 35W Excess Project through the public
process will make a cameo at City Hall tomorrow.

They will be asking for 151,000 in city money, money
that could be spent on bike lanes, sidewalk repair, or
new benches, but instead will pay the $180/hour fee
Tom Johnson charges to convince neighborhoods that
ramming freeway ramps through city blocks is a wise
transportation investment.

Here are the details:

What: City Council Transportation and Public Works
Committee considers the 35W Excess Project.

When: 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 20

Where: City Hall, room 317 (City Council Chambers).

Our friends from Allina Health Care are telling the
city they won't add 1,000 jobs to the Sears Center
unless the city supports the 35W Excess Project.

We want more jobs in Phillips, but we DO NOT want Lake
Street widened to 8 lanes, and the demolition of 6
businesses, 16 homes and a tot lot. It is unfair of
Allina to force the city to choose between more jobs
and sensible transportation. Please, Allina, consider
the "Transit/No Ramps" alternative as proposed by
STRIDE. Our alternative would reconnect the
neighborhood grid and build a robust transit system in
lieu of tearing down homes and businesses for more
ramps and a wider Lake Street.

Listmembers of all persuations are urged to come out
and tell the council what you think about this
project.
