Not so long ago, Access Project supporter were
demonizing and marginalizing anyone who dared to
assume that the lengthened bridges and wider roadbeds
created by the project would lead to additional lanes
any time soon. Dave Jensen went so far as to put it
in the "black helicopters swirling overhead" variety
of paranoia, and the denials offered by Wizard Marks,
Scott Persons, and Tom Johnson were equally strong.

Check out today's Star Tribune. On the front page of
the metro section, just below the headline that says
"220 Teacher to be cut", there is an article about the
Excess Project. Here's the link if you don't have the
paper version handy:

http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4330140.html

Here's an important excerpt:

The fifth lane is expected to be added to I-35W by the
Minnesota Department of Transportation during the
access project.

So, while some people marginalized others as
"conspiracy theorists", it would seem that they
themselves were either:

a. lied to
b. liars
c. naive
d. all of the above

Regardless of their reasons for believing what they
did, I wish I hadn't been right on this one!
Unfortunately, it truly doesn't take a rocket
scientist to follow the pattern of deception created
by MNDoT on many projects, and Smith Parker on this
one.

Does anyone out there still think there will be
mitigation dollars available?
