Update on the Contract for the Minneapolis Recycling Processing The Minneapolis Transportation and Public Works committee will be making a decision soon about who will process the recycling that is collected in Minneapolis. Currently there are two proposals being seriously considered: one from Eureka Recycling, a nonprofit recycler, and one from Recycle America Alliance, a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc.
Upon learning of the Minneapolis Public Works staff's recommendation to grant the contract to Waste Management, the Council Members requested additional analysis of the proposals before making their decision. This additional information was scheduled to be presented to the Council Members on Tuesday, January 20. Instead, the staff asked for an extension and will present their complete evaluation to the Council Members on Tuesday, February 3. According to Susan Young, Director of Solid Waste and Recycling Services, "this analysis has led to further questions that I need to address." The extension was needed ".to prepare a report that gives the Committee members.clear and reasoned evaluations of the merits and challenges of each of the proposals, with adequate time to evaluate the information and recommendations before discussion in a Committee meeting." We will continue to keep you all posted about the proposal process. In the meantime, please continue to stay informed and tell others who care about recycling the details of this issue. By Thursday, you can access information via our website at www.eurekarecycling.org. Thank you for all of your support. Resourcefully Yours, Eureka Recycling www.eurekarecycling.org REMINDERS: 1.
