Given the vermiculite, the Riverside plant, the Shoreham Yards pollution,
and the various other industrial and pollution issues circulating around
northeast Minneapolis, it seems appropriate that Lois Gibbs (of Love Canal
fame, the so-called "Mother of SuperFund" and now director of a Washington,
D.C., environmental justice organization) is coming to our part of town. She
is scheduled to be at the Columbia Grounds coffee shop (corner of 33rd Ave.
NE and Central Ave. NE, Minneapolis, across from the entrance to the golf
course) for an informal gathering and some remarks to those attending.
Schedule right now is 5 -7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6. The event is free and open
to the public.

The Shoreham Area Advisory Committee's community members are thrilled to
have been asked by the sponsor, National Environmental Trust, to be involved
with this gathering. There may even be a musician playing following the
Gibbs event, so come and join your neighbors for an interesting evening.
(Since refreshments are being served, the NET would like to get a rough idea
of how many are planning to attend, so let me know and I will pass along the
word.)
