Thanks to Gayle Bonneville of the Shoreham committee for letting
us know of the Love Canal activist, Lois Gibbs, talking at
Columbia Grounds on Feb-6. This gives me a segue into a few
comments about the Warden Oil state superfund site in Harrison
at 187 Humboldt Av N.

I am very pleased to say that the agreement has been signed for
the cleanup of the site to residential standards. The cleanup
is to swing into high gear any week now, and is supposed to be
finished this summer. When completed, the total cost of the
cleanup will be around $1.7 million. A good synopsis of the
cleanup deal can be read at:
http://www.co.hennepin.mn.us/pa/newreleases/03.12.17.wardenoil.htm

The combined efforts of many people were involved in moving this
issue forward to this promising point. There are probably others,
but of those that I am aware of, I would like to thank:
Fred Campbell & others at MPCA,
David Jaeger, Mark Stenglein & others at Hennepin County,
Harrison Neighborhood Ass'n & the HNA Environment Com.,
Tom Leighton & others with the City of Minneapolis,
Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment Oversight Com.

Dave Stack, Harrison (where the 'Chemart' state superfund site
is also scheduled to be cleaned up this year)
