Another note on my reason for knowing I would totally support Natalie
Johnson Lee for Mayor (or any other policital position).
One of the men who was homeless at the campout last year had tears in his
about the fact that she, a City Council person, would take the time and come
and talk to him. The level of hope that gave him was so powerful.
She did not have to be chased around for her to respond to the suffering
of persons who are homeless. I did not have to go through some staffer, or
scheduler, or negotiate a meeting.
She got an e-mail invitation to a campout--- about homelessness-- and she
came. This was not a huge campout and certainly the owners of the Twins or
Vikings were not there.
There were no fancy little canopies, no inviatation to a rich person's
town house.
Yet she came, sat down on cold snowy ground and had a conversation.
Her compassion and respect is remarkable in this era of what one social
service provider calls "media drive bys". Smile for that camera, spout some
empty phrase like "I really do care,, I will get back to you this issue" (in
about a million years.).
And it is people like Ms. Johnson Lee that galvanize those of us who have
unlimited energy and commitment to give to the right person.
   She is the right person.
