I have to agree with Eva, and with Wizard on the erosion of separation of church and state.
But it seems more like it's something personal with Wizard to constantly be defending an organization which tried to _hide_ its religious leanings. Sure, if parents send their Jewish kids to a Catholic soccer camp, they might expect some religion. But the name "Urban Ventures" as opposed to Methodist Church gives not one clue about religion.
Urban Ventures is the bad guy here -- not for proselytizing, but for deception and misleading advertising.
Thanks to Chris Johnson for getting my point - and making it clearer. The problem is with Urban Ventures habit of deceptive marketting.
It sounds like Art Erickson is lobbying Robert Lilligren hard on getting a zoning variance for this project.
I was disappointed that the University of Minnesota didn't get more in it's bonding bill requests. Pawlenty challenged people to find money from other programs he recommended. I think the Colin Powell Youth Center is one such item is an easy cut. I appreciated Governor Ventura's veto of this boondoggle last time. Hopefully the legislature - and the Minneapolis Legislative delegation will do what they can to stop public funding for Urban Ventures.
Urban Ventures deceptive advertising gave a black eye to any nonprofit organization trying to promote their programs through the schools - including the Girl Scouts. This is unfortunate - and is not the type of organization that should get a penny of government bonding money.
