Parking at the new Stone Arch Apartments is a problem that needs attention before summer comes with all its craft fairs and celebrations on SE Main Street.
Residents of the new apartment building are parking legally in the parking bays along Main Street, but they are also parking on the street outside of the parking bays, right up to and just past the STOP sign with its "No Parking for 30'" sign on it. Main Street at this point, with new curbs and gutters, is extremely narrow. When a car is parked outside of the recessed bay, it effectively narrows Main Street down to one and a half lanes on a snowy day. I drive a Shadow, and would not want to pass a Caravan or SUV in what is left after someone parks on the street. This is despite some excellent city plowing to the curb, incidently. People are also parking in non-spots in the guest lot (perpendicular to the painted slots), but that should come to an end by itself as doors and fenders get dinged or smushed by people trying to get out of the legal spots in the lot. We shall see. BTW: Who approved that Main Street extension design? Two huge apartment buildings and there is only a two lane street to provide access? There is an empty lot across the street.
