LISTEN----A coo tey Bien, sil vous play(phonetic, I flunked French in ' 67).
I have been to The Big Easy; to the Vieux Carre'. Both recently, and 30 plus years ago. I have consumed wines there; from a stem, and from a brown bag. I ate red beans and rice at "Buster's" in ' 73; 22 cents, with bread and butter. And I Jazz-Brunched at "Brennan's" on Division Street in ' 03. I have never done these things in 23 years at Rue West Broadway and Rue Penn in North Mpls., though. Until last night! The Bean Scene is taking our North Mpls. to new cultural heights. We do owe this unforgettable evening to our hosts at the Bean Scene; Impresario Dean Rose, and his devoted staff. He, a handsome, suave, and charming single young man (fine ladies...?) with unparalleled (and indescribable by me) je ne say qua. He has a Big, Easy knowledge of fine wines; and how to serve them (generously, beyond generous). We feel so exited as we enter the beautifully modern suite with atrium, bars, and couches. Our Mardi Gras Masks are presented by friendly feather-costumed staffers. Live music by the featured singer/guitar stylist could be enjoyed UNDER the raucous of hungry guests. They, serving themselves platefuls from the center piece, jumbo shrimp cocktail platter, and the nearby buffet of red beans, rice, Jambalaya. Add un parlez bien. NOW: Let the Bon Ton Rulez; all mes amis(s?) filled their glass(s) quite fullez. Encore, apres encore. Let me describe: Seven wine "stations" with reps from seven wine distributors presented us with about 40 vintages to sample and enjoy. Europe, Australia, Chile, and USA were proudly poured for as long or short, and as often, as each guest desired. Information about the vin was shared by these very well informed wine ambassadors, too. There was a silent auction of various, and unusual, vintage bottles. I bid on all, I hope I won! Our Host, Dean Rose, donated all proceeds of this Gala to, The Project, our local Northside youth shelter. If you did miss this event, pay attention and check out The Bean Scene. This $20 event would cost $65 at a bistro near you. Come share the magic on "The Rue with the Most Potential, Rue West Broadway" . Keith Reitman Bon Soir NearNorth REMINDERS: 1.
