In Ward 10, Precinct 3 at the DFL caucus we had 147 attendees. In the years I have been in the ECCO neighborhood, I have never seen more than 40 people at a caucus event. The overwhelming thing was, it wasn't just the grey-haired "old guard" of the Democratic party who showed up to participate (who have been the other 39 people in the room when I have attended). We had scores of YOUNG people there, and I overheard a number of people state that they were renters in the neighborhood (Uptown) and that this was their first foray into the political process. A number of my neighbors brought their teens and pre-teens (some their very little children) and lots of the youngish set eagerly asked questions about process and spoke passionately about their candidate of choice.
I am completely energized by the turnout and the enthusiasm. I have great hope for the new zest for Democracy, and win or lose, I feel that our country's political process has scored a major victory.
Hooray!
