If anyone still thinks that our transit strike is a local event, I suggest they read the editorial from the Washington Post, "What Wal-Mart hath Wrought" by Harold Meyerson. The editorial puts the so called "local" California grocery strike into national perspective.

I've been thinking about what someone wrote to this list yesterday, namely that higher wages for bus drivers leads to greater professionalism in turn leading to a higher level of safety for the passengers. The Meyerson editorial clearly outlines just how that worked in Southern California for union people in the groceries. Commuting without my bus this morning was not fun. After reading Meyerson's think piece, I feel that supporting the local bus strike is the least I can do and not half of what I should be doing. Emilie Quast SE Como REMINDERS: 1.
