What do our DFL elected officials have to say about
the bus strike?

I have seen public statements on the bus strike by:

   Rep. Alice Hausman
   Rep. Frank Hornstein
   Sen. Scott Dibble
   Mayor R.T. Rybak

I'm sure that other inner city legislators have
made statements criticing Pawlenty and Bell for the
bus strike, but I haven't seen them quoted in the
papers or on the House web site.

Are the St. Paul stadium boosters shy about
criticizing Pawlenty? In 2002 they played footsie with
Republicans.

In 1997 Steve Dornfeld of the Pioneer Press wrote a
great article about how Carl Pohlad forced a bus
strike in 1969 or 1970. You can probably find this
article in the PP's paid archives or the library.
Dornfeld is now at the Met Council!

In the 60's, Pohlad controlled the Twin Cities
Rapid Transit company through his company, MEI.

Pohlad drained profits and didn't do much
maintenance on the bus system. Bus profits were
invested in the Tropicana casino in Las Vegas, Coke
bottling plants, and other places.

Pohlad forced a bus strike during the Christmas
season. The state ended the strike by buying the
private bus company and creating the MTC. Pohlad made
a big fat profit at public expense by forcing the
strike.
