A question that's been bouncing around in my head lately has to do with whether empty classrooms means a school has to be closed. As Mayor Rybak has mentioned, perhaps it's time to rephrase the question.

If it's a priority to have schools in individual communities and we currently have empty classrooms - is there something else that can be done with all that empty space? Are there uses of that space that can generate income for the district?

Another thought. There are neighborhood organizations all over our fair city renting office space. Could any of them rent space in school buildings?

Such ideas may or may not be appropriate, but I do think it's time to think creatively. Lets look for solutions that serve our communities and our schools.
