Sharon Henry-Blythe, chair of the Minneapolis Board of Education, asked
me to post this note.

A response to the post from Alberto Monserrate and others in Latino
Leadership for the Future of Minneapolis:

We on the board were glad to receive the letter. We share concern about
how we best serve the growing population of Spanish-speaking young
people and agree that this group could be helpful in our discussions of
policy in that regard.

We will soon hire a facilitator to guide our public outreach during the
superintendent search. We will want to respond to the writers and the
issues they write about as part of the search.

In the short term, we will be listening to the district's Twelve-Point
Plan committee, which has representatives of Spanish-speaking young
people and others who have not achieved at the levels we would like.

We will check in with Mr. Monserrate's leadership group and readers of
this list after we select a facilitator later this month.
