Keith says: You be an expert on the transit strike; I am not. However, I do
respect one North Mpls.bus rider and activist, Leslie Davis. He got out of his
chair and did something he believed in. He made his point. What are you doing
today?

Leslie Davis moves to recall Pawlenty
March 12, 2004 MNRecallPetition
ST. PAUL - Leslie Davis, a consistent critic of former Gov. Jesse Ventura,
filed a recall petition against Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Friday, alleging the
Republican governor has failed in his duties by allowing the Metro Transit bus
strike.
Davis gathered some of the 25 signatures required to begin the effort at
driver picket sites; One name on the petition is Ron Lloyd, president of the
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005, which represents about 2,200 striking Metro
Transit workers.
To make his case, Davis quotes from a number or state statutes, including one
that promises the state will "provide, to the greatest feasible extent, a
basic level of mobility for all people in the metropolitan area." Davis said
Pawlenty is violating the laws.
Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer will have to validate the signatures, then
it would be up to Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Blatz to determine
if the petition includes grounds for "serious malfeasance or nonfeasance."
Even then it would be a long way to a recall. A petition must be signed by
eligible voters equal to 25 percent of the votes cast for that office in the last
election. That would mean about 563,000 more signatures.
Pawlenty's spokesman didn't have an immediate comment.
