Any new candidates come out of the woodwork at yesterday's Senate District 61 DFL convention?
My informal roster of new candidates is pretty skinny: 8th Ward Council: Marie Hauser, Jeffrey Hayden School Board: Peggy Flanagan. Note: the only city-level election in 2004 is for School Board. It's interesting that for all the heat and occasional light about school closings, three School Board seats are up; they are currently held by Denny Schapiro, Ross Taylor and Sharon Henry-Blythe. Haven't heard much open talk about people challenging them.) Peggy's lit indicates she works for the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches and holds University of Minnesota degrees in Child Psychology and American Indian Studies. She lives on the North Side and is a member of the White Earth band of Ojibwe. She is a DFLer. Her lit mentions closing the achievement gap, increasing parent involvement, building community partnerships, and increasing mentoring. She writes, "I believe a youthful perspective would be a welcome addition to the school board." She asks voters to contact her and her email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] or phone 799-4705. Any other candidates out there? (Or incumbents not running?) Help add to this roster! David Brauer List manager REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
