> Reasonable question. My Hennepin County Sales Taxes are in imminent danger > of getting raised 1/2 percent without a referendum for the Twin Stadium? > Where is the Taxpayer's League? Who is Wigley?
Michael Wigley, in addition the the info provided by Chris Johnson, is a co-founder of the (Rich) Taxpayers League, which is officed in Plymouth. > Why is my county commissioner Mark Stenglein advocating the picking of the > Hennepin County taxpayers on this stadium. He told me that the county > needs to get some state funding for the HCMC. So why is he on Face to Face > blathering about the stadium? What type of misplaced priorities is that? I thought this issue was resolved after Eva went on her rant about Mayor Rybak and the planetarium, but again - just because you happen to see a politician talking about one issue doesn't mean she or he is ignoring another. Here's my understanding of how broadcast programming works: A writer or producer comes up with a show topic, such as stadium financing, and then the staff goes out and finds people knowledgeable about the topic to appear on the show and talk about it. In other words, Stenglein was probably invited to come specifically to talk about stadiums. If you'd like to see Stenglein appear on the show and talk about HCMC, call or write Face to Face and let them know. It doesn't make sense to bash Stenglein for accepting an offer to appear on TV just because you didn't care for the topic of the show. > And gee - it seems that the Twins want Time Warner Cable to raise my cable > rates to pay for a station that I never watch. Let the sports fans pay to > watch the twins. I'd rather spend my money going to a Lynx or Gopher > Women's Sports game. Wrong. The Twins want to get paid a fair value for their Victory Sports channel programming because Fox Sports Net wasn't doing that. The Twins would prefer Time Warner not raise rates to cover adding Victory Sports, but they don't really have any control over that. Time Warner is claiming that they cannot bear the cost without raising rates and so have resisted carrying Victory Sports, much to the chagrin of not only Twins fans, but also Gopher men's basketball and football, other college sports teams and some high school sports. Victory Sports is not just about the Twins, although that will probably be their top attraction. As for Eva's idea that only sports fans should pay to watch the Twins, I'll gladly make that deal if it applies to every other cable channel carried. I pay close to $50 a month for Time Warner and watch maybe a dozen channels at most. But try suggesting a la carte pricing to Time Warner's management and watch them break out in a cold sweat if they don't faint dead away first... Mark Snyder Windom Park REMINDERS: 1.
