You forgot to include the quote from the same article saying that job growth is still lower than
we would normally expect at an economy growing at this rate. Nor does the increase in jobs
reflect stagnant or decreased wages or people leaving unemployment to take jobs at reduced
salaries. I wonder what percentage of Minneapolitans received more than a 2% pay increase over
the last couple years.
Jason's point is well taken. I know personally that I have not had full time, gainful employment since Sept. 2001 (Sept. 12, 2001 specifically), despite hundreds of job applications and a masters degree in my field. I am one of the many who has had to make do with a variety of unstable, lower paying jobs, including waitressing, home repair, and landscape labor, among others. Thank goodness for the one decent paying pick up job I have as a motorcycle safety instructor, but I live in fear of the 'powers that be' deciding that safe motorcycling is not worth teaching and our support funding gets raided.
