Vicky Heller North Oaks and Cedar-Riverside wrote Here is a different version of the same question:
Your child wants a bigger allowance, and a lifetime commitment. Your income has been dwindling and your expenses increasing. What would you do? A) Beg your mother for money to meet your child's demands? B) Borrow money that you cannot repay to meet your child's demands? C) Explain to your child that the answer is NO, at least for now. Governor Pawlenty and Peter Bell have chosen option C. Of course, the reason your income (tax revenue) is dwindling is because you looked at the bank (state treasury} and saw you had a lot of money there that you thought you didn't need so you told your employer (the citizens) you would be happy to give it back to him (tax rebate)and live on a limited income (no new taxes!). Then the kid's school tuition (education) came due and the van broke down (transportation) and your sick cousin needed to go to the hospital (health care) and your brother was evicted (affordable housing) but you refuse to go to your employer and explain that you made a BIG mistake and that there never was any extra money and we need to bite the bullet and everybody pay their fair share so we can all have a decent quality of life and not just the wealthy few! THIS is the real option Pawlenty and Bell are availing themselves of. Steve Nelson Willard Hay REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
