SUDDEN OAK DEATH!

http://www.startribune.com/stories/535/4711120.html

Oh the oaks, not the OAKS! They're my personal favorite. I have been pressuring neighbors to cut down their nasty invasive silver maples and plants some oaks for years. I just love em'- their longevity, form, color... We can't have another epidemic like Dutch Elm. I always thought the park board needed to plant less fir/pine trees and more oaks, the city *was*founded on an oak grassland.

Northstar Commuter Rail news-

http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4711175.html

I hope this project goes through. Has the city considered a new transportation hub near the Warehouse District? Both the Hiawatha and Northstar would terminate there. With an additional line serving the western suburbs and a rapid bus line serving the south suburbs, Minneapolis could really reap the benefits. A possible new stadium would also be next door.
How about a multi-level station where the main trunk lines come in underneath and a system of buses and streetcars (yes streetcars!) whisks people through downtown? It could be part of a whole redevelopment of the west side. Perhaps downtown could be reconnected to its neighborhoods, it hasn't been since the freeways cut a ditch around it. Perhaps a line following the old rail corridor past the metrodome into St. Paul connecting to the possible high-speed rail line to Chicago! Oh the possiblities are endless. Another great corridor follows along the edge of NE and SE under 35W and along highway 88 next to the Quarry Shopping Center.
