Greetings from Lake Vermilion!
I have been out of the city since 11/1/04 but still read the Star Trib.most
every day. I lived on the West Bank for nearly 20 years, 18 of those years
as a homeowner. I was distressed (but not surprised) to see that there
will probably be even more "low income"-(translation- HUGE subsidies and tax
breaks for the developer/owners) housing being considered for the Cedar
Riverside area. No one will protest, as there are very few folks living on
the West Bank that are allowed to own their homes, it is nearly all
subsidized, low-income rental. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! The West Bank could be a
vibrant, multi-cultural residential, commercial neighborhood, with the best
entertainment in the city. Unfortunately, the powers that be seem to have
"given up" on the neighborhood. I BELIEVE THERE ARE LAWS regarding
"concentrating poverty in any one area"-remember the HOLMAN decree?

We have one of the highest rates of poverty and we do have the lowest % of
homeownership in the city. A 9th grade student knows that isn't healthy!
Isn't there anyone that is going to try to stop the continuing decline of
that unique area?

Sold my house, closing in late April.
Keep up the good work folks!
