Hospital denies any discrimination We filed this lawsuit to bring change to the hospital, end institutional racism, and to help the patients, said Carmen Brown, an office specialist in the pediatrics clinic at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) and a plaintiff in a discrimination lawsuit filed by Black employees of the hospital. The lawsuit charges that HCMC has developed a body of discriminatory employment practices, which include among other things: tolerating racist insults and intimidation directed at Black employees, discrimination against Blacks in promotion and discipline, and retaliating against Black workers who speak out against racist treatment. The workers are demanding that an injunction be issued prohibiting the hospital from engaging in discriminatory behavior and that the hospital adopt an effective affirmative action program. The suit also demands that the affected employees be restored to the positions and compensation at Hennepin County that they would have achieved absent discrimination, as well as receive back pay and punitive monetary damages. What they [hospital administration] dont realize is that this is not about the money. Its about making a change for people who work at the hospital people who will work there as well as the patients, said Cynthia Fashaw, spokesperson for the group Standing With Others Renouncing Discrimination (SWORD). SWORD is the group that organized workers to file the lawsuit. http://www.spokesman-recorder.com/news/Article/Article.asp?NewsID=41441&sID=4 -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm REMINDERS: 1.
