Yes, I was on the picket line today while Pawlenty, Bell and Ron Lloyd were giving their press conference. Already people were leaning out their car windows and shouting at the picketers, "Go home! The strike is over!"
Many people are not educated as to how unions, labor negotiations and strikes work. They certainly don't seem to be taught it in the public schools (might it not give them dangerous ideas?), so I'm inclined to cut them some slack. (By the way, if you are a Minneapolis teacher and you DO teach your students this, or would like to, I applaud your dedication and I would seriously like to hear from you.) The strike will continue and the picket lines will stay up until the members of our union have read the tentative agreement, heard the executive board's recommendation (yea or nay), asked any relevant questions, and voted on the contract. If we accept it, we might be back to work as soon as Saturday. Cross your fingers and hope it's a fair deal. Sam Adams East Phillips REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
