The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has a PR firm and Ginger Sisko (sp) is their PR person. At an MPRB meeting last fall she asked me if I had any ideas on how to more effectivly communicate with the people in Minneapolis. I have no PR experience but I suggested she contact the local neighborhood associations as most of them print a quarterly newsletter. We here in the Columbia Park Neighborhood Association (CPNA) have even contacted them to see if they would send us something. Guess what kind of response we got, NADA. I guess they talk the talk but the walk is beyond their scope.
Just a heads up for the other neighborhoods out there. I went through the 2004 budget overview I have and though I'm not sure all these items were passed here are a few things to keep your eyes open for.... Rinks that are considered low use and slated not to open in Dec...Harrison, Luxton, Bohanon, North Commons, Loring and McRae. Eliminate New Year's Eve Celebration 4 beach closures (have been restored as of 4/7) Raise fees everywhere ********************************* There were also some cuts the were deemed not a good idea but that may be revisited this year and those are... Close selected display gardens Stinson, Victory, Minnehaha Falls, Lake Calhoun, Loring Park, Lyndale Park Rock Garden, Lyndale Park Perennial Garden and Lyndale Park Rose Garden Close Recreation Centers Webber, Audubon, Loring, Brackett, Kenny and Morris THESE ARE POSSIBLE BUT NOT ON THE BOOKS FOR SURE The cuts in LGA have made some of these things a real possibility and that is why I think pursuing the Marina is a horrible idea. Especially in light of the fact that the site is not condusive to their plan. One other place the MPRB might consider posting their proposed cuts is on this list. I have seen a representative sampling of the city posting here so the word could probably get out. Liz Wielinski Columbia Park REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
