I have learned that the Rybak administration is already making attempts to
control the citys next Director of Civil Rights. The Community
Collaborative and at least half a dozen other community groups are hosting
two community forums so that the community can meet and interact with the 4
candidates for the position. The Rybak administration has directed the
search firm to direct the candidates not to attend the community forums. I
am sick and tired of this mayors blatant disregard for communities of
color. I am beginning to think that Rybak is scared of dealing with people
of color in uncontrolled situations such as community meetings. Rybak stop
playing games and allow the candidates to meet the community. Just because
you have your hand picked search committee made up of community members that
you are comfortable with dont think that they represent the community. I
have also learned that two of the candidates for the position have been
informed that they will not be selected. The community meetings will take
place Monday at 6:00 pm at the Sabathani Community Center in south
Minneapolis and Tuesday at 6:00 pm at the Minneapolis Urban League.
