A few have taken me to task on attacking CM Lane. They are right; I should not be so presumptive. I apologize to CM Lane and all on this board.
It is very hard for me to read that we continue to fund more rental housing when: a) There is already an oversupply of rental housing. There might be an affordability gap, but that is a financial problem, not an availability problem. b) My property taxes go up and up and up. c) The city has viable projects before them, that don't ask for government assistance, and they are rejected. Mr. Wilson wants policy debates, yet when I have made more professional posts on these topics in the past, I don't remember him responding to the policy questions. I am happy to enter into a debate and be part of a professional group looking into these issues. I am part of the Housing 5000 advisory committee in St. Paul where we have these very debates. You might be surprised to learn that my statements are often applauded by the non-profits. It is the developers that usually frown. My questions remain: - Why subsidize when we have an oversupply? - Why stop a self funded development effort? The priorities seem all wrong. Bill Cullen Whittier Landlord. REMINDERS: 1.
